Winchester Tummy Tuck
Many people living in Winchester have tummy tuck surgery at Allegany Plastic Surgery in Cumberland, Maryland. Surgery is performed by Robert J. Carpenter, M.D., a board certified plastic surgeon.
Also known as an abdominoplasty; a tummy tuck removes protruding skin from the midsection for both men and women. However, more women get tummy tucks because pregnancy stretches the muscles that run from your mid chest to your lower pubic area, and typically do not bounce back into place!
The procedure produces a flatter waist through the removal of excess skin and fat. For Dr. Carpenter's patients in Winchester, tummy tuck procedures are often done in conjunction with liposuction.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Carpenter examines your stomach and asks about your medical history. He will then suggest a plan for your plastic surgery procedure and explain each segment while answering your questions. He will also tell you what you must do before the procedure -- such as give up smoking -- and what is expected of you after the operation.
Doctor, Can Anybody have a Tummy Tuck?
However, some patients are not right for the tummy tuck. For instance, if you plan on becoming pregnant again, your stomach muscles will only stretch apart once more. And if you are very overweight, the surgeon may ask you to lose some weight and then return to his office for another consultation. Fat down deep in your body around the internal organs can't be liposuctioned.
While a tummy tuck requires a hip-to-hip incision, the resulting scar is placed low in the patient's pubic section; that hides the surgical marks in clothing, underwear and bathing suits.
Dr. Carpenter also performs the "mini" abdominoplasty, where mostly skin is removed. Because the operation is so extensive, it can be two to four weeks before you can go back to work. Another four to six weeks may be allowed to pass before the patient can become involved in vigorous exercise.
Fortunately, many Winchester tummy tuck patients have before-and-after pictures of their procedure on view.
